Portsmouth is located on a barrier island in North Carolina. It was once a thriving village. It's now maintained by the National Park Service, and no full time residents remain.
Portsmouth is a magical place. Many buildings in the village are being preserved. The streets are sandy; the wildlife is incredible. (Including the mosquitos!) and the beaches are isolated and beautiful.
When on Portsmouth, it's easy to imagine life as it once was. It's a place of inspiration and tranquility for me, and I hope to share a bit of that with you through my artwork.
My alterred photograph of Portsmouth is embellished with the word, "Peace". It's then preserved between two pieces of glass. The findings are sterling silver, the solder is lead-free silver solder; and the included cord is grecian leather.
The back of this piece is shown in the next image.
